Four Opportunities To Change A Life

Four Opportunities To Change A Life

The gift of a life lived free from crushing poverty

Thank you for your generosity towards those living in poverty around the world. Through your support, Samaritan’s Purse has been privileged to be able to help many thousands of people out of crippling poverty through our Raising Families campaign. We’ve partnered with local churches in their unique positions within communities, to help restore God-given dignity to those most in need.
In Swaziland

  • 14,804 vulnerable families have been helped with: improved shelter, access to medical services and education, improved nutrition, spiritual and physical health.
  • 428 orphans and children received counselling support.
  • 238 youth were trained on life skills and gardening, and 33 child-headed households were matched with adult foster parents.

In Rwanda

  • 18,267 families now have medical insurance, providing vital protection.
  • 11,292 children are now able to attend school, improving their life opportunities.

Uganda

  • 577 churches provided care and support to vulnerable community members.
  • 98,370 people benefitted, including the elderly, chronically ill, persons with disabilities, orphans and child-headed families, and widow/female-headed households.

Zambia

  • 1,187 vulnerable households have experienced the encompassing benefits of livelihood support strategies, savings and loan schemes, schools support and biblical studies.

Four new projects mean four more communities that can be lifted out of poverty.

Building on the successful principles of the Raising Families programme, our focus is to develop four new projects and continue to change the lives of whole communities.

HELP LIFT A COMMUNITY OUT OF POVERTY TODAY

SAFE HAVEN IN THE DRC

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, children orphaned and displaced by conflict are living on the street, excluded from formal education and at risk of many kinds of abuse.
Our Safe Haven project is creating opportunities for these vulnerable youngsters to be accepted and loved by Christian communities, reintegrated into school, and trained in healthy income-deriving activities.

UGANDA BIO LIVELIHOODS

Uganda hosts over 1.5 million refugees who have fled conflict in neighbouring countries. Refugees face numerous challenges including limited access to shelter, food, education, medical care and opportunities to earn income.
We’re building biogas systems to provide clean, smoke-free energy for cooking and lighting, and providing goats which are known to be effective in combating rural poverty. Refugees are being trained in the biogas technology, as well as in agricultural techniques and goat-rearing.
Local church leaders and women’s groups are included in the training, allowing strengthened relationships with refugees.

BE PART OF CHANGING THEIR STORIES

SUPPORTING OSTRACISED CHRISTIANS IN LIBERIA

In the area that borders the Islamic nations of Guinea and Sierra Leone, the influence of Islam has spread into northern Liberia, and many individuals who have converted to the Christian faith have been ostracised from their communities and support systems.
Our community development facilitators introduce these believers to a community of Christians who will support their spiritual growth and emotional healing through fellowship and pastoral care. Their physical needs are met from within their communities and with our further support.

LIGHT AND HOPE IN THE DRC

Resurgences of violence in the eastern provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has led to population displacement of many women and children; the groups that are especially at risk during conflict.
We’re training church leaders in various topics such as child protection, gender-based violence and reproductive health. We support churches in meeting the needs of victims, including spiritual and psychological support for orphans, and the materials children need to attend school. Vulnerable women and girls are provided with opportunities to earn safe and legitimate income.
